Four Canadian Critical-Minerals Projects Advanced in One Week — SMET Debuts, CRE Drills Resume, CCI Takes the Mill
Three lithium plays and one copper developer each crossed a concrete milestone between August 1–4, 2026. Scotia Metals debuted on the CSE, Critical Elements put 10,000 metres of drilling back in motion, and Canadian Copper took the keys to a 3,000-tonne-per-day mill — all on August 4 alone.
**Scotia Metals (CSE: SMET) — Acadia Debuts**
Scotia Metals Corp. resumed trading on the Canadian Securities Exchange under the symbol SMET on August 4, 2026, following the close of its business combination with Scotia Lithium Corp., announced July 28, 2026. The company now controls the Acadia Project: 100%-owned, approximately 1,200 km², spanning 109 mineral licences with over 100 km of prospective lithium pegmatite strike in western Nova Scotia. The ground sits along strike from Champlain Mineral Ventures' Brazil Lake Lithium Project and immediately south of the former East Kemptville Tin Mine.
The concurrent non-brokered private placement raised C$1,221,600 from 3,758,768 flow-through shares at C$0.325 each, and C$4,578,400 from 18,313,600 non-flow-through shares at C$0.25. Post-closing, the company has 45,353,041 common shares issued and outstanding, with 6,500,000 reserved for warrants and 1,175,000 for options priced at C$0.25 over five years, per the company's August 4, 2026 news release on Newsfilecorp.
**Critical Elements (TSX-V: CRE) — 10,000 Metres Back in Motion**
Also on August 4, 2026, Critical Elements Lithium Corporation announced resumption of its Phase 2 Summer 2026 exploration program at the Rose West Discovery in Eeyou Istchee, Québec. The program had been suspended following a precautionary halt due to a forest fire's proximity to the camp and drills, as noted in the company's July 6, 2026 press release.
The 10,000-metre systematic drill program targets spodumene-bearing pegmatites that typically run 10 to 40 m thick in a sub-horizontal stacked geometry; three new spodumene-bearing pegmatitic bodies have already been identified within the target area. The program is designed to support a Mineral Resource Estimate planned for Fall 2026, per the company's August 4, 2026 announcement on AccessNewswire.
The flagship Rose Project holds a Feasibility Study completed August 2023, key permits, a formalized agreement with Cree neighbours, road access, and proximity to a low-carbon electrical grid. Financial backing includes a US$115M/C$150M conditional support letter from a leading Canadian financial institution and conditional approval for C$20M from the Critical Minerals Infrastructure Fund, per the same August 4, 2026 announcement.
**Canadian Copper (CSE: CCI) — Caribou Mill Is Now Theirs**
Canadian Copper Inc. completed the title transfer for the Caribou Complex and officially assumed management and operation of the facility, per its August 4, 2026 announcement. The official closing took place at a Government of New Brunswick event in Bathurst on July 28, 2026. Canadian Copper acquired the site through receivership proceedings of previous owner Trevali Mining Ltd.
The Caribou Complex is a 3,000 tonne per day milling facility comprising one SAG mill, one ball mill, two regrinding circuits with three ISAmills and one additional ball mill, a differential sulphide flotation plant, metallurgical and geochemical laboratories, a tailings management facility, connected grid power, water supply, and an underground mine with historical Proven and Probable reserves of 4.5 million tonnes.
The plan is to process copper, zinc and other minerals from the nearby Murray Brook mine, which Canadian Copper already owns. Murray Brook carries an NI 43-101 resource of 21+ million tonnes at 1.42% CuEq and is described in company materials as one of the largest VMS deposits in Bathurst Camp. Permitting moved separately: on July 13, 2026, Canadian Copper submitted its Environmental Impact Assessment registration document for Murray Brook to the New Brunswick Department of Environment and Local Government — the first such EIA registration in New Brunswick since 2013, per canadiancopper.com.
**The Week Ahead**
For CRE, the next marker is the Fall 2026 Mineral Resource Estimate for Rose West. For CCI, the Murray Brook EIA review process is now formally underway. For SMET, the company has flagged Q3 2026 drilling on the Acadia Project. Three different clocks, all ticking.
